A pair of important books on Samurai, their history, fighting techniques, armour and weapons. The first book is "Secrets of the Samurai" published in 1973 by Charles E. Tuttle Company Inc. of Rutland, Vermont, USA. This book is a definitive study of the martial arts of feudal Japan, illustrating in detail the weapons, tecfhniques, strategies and principles of combat that made the Japanese warriors a terrible foe. Profusely illustrated in 464 pages, this study provides and insight into the various forms of armed and unarmed martial arts that have developped and been systematically applied within Japanese society throughout the centuries. This book condition is excellent, almost like new. With its dust jacket. This is a first edition. The second book is "Japanese Arms and Armour" published in 1969 by Arms and Armour Press, Lionel Leventhal Limited, London, England. 54 pages of text, the rest of the book being only illustrations. This splendidly produced and lavishly illustrated (29 colour plates and 112 black and white plates) demonstrates how the warriors of old Japan and their armourers devoted great skill and care to the style and quality of their military accoutrements. This book condition is very good. With its dust jacket. This is a first edition.
